Charlton Bust Unveiled
A bust of the late Mayor Cecil Charlton was unveiled in Mandeville Monday during the Manchester Parish Council’s Annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
Located in the Cecil Charlton Park in the Mandeville town centre, the bust forms part of the renovation work at the park, in addition to a newly commissioned waterfall, which was turned on Monday.
Charlton died in September at 88 years old.
Described as one of the longest serving mayors in Jamaica, Charlton served both the People’s National Party (PNP) and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) as mayor of this south central highland town in the late 1960s, 70s and 80s.
Christopher Powell, Secretary Manager of the Manchester Parish Council said that the turn out for the ceremony was “encouraging.”
