SUMMARY:New Sports Complex on Main Street
DESCRIPTION:\n\nPeople in and around Mandeville now have a multimillion-dollar outdoor facility available to them on Main Street\, opposite the Ridgemount United Church.\nThe facility occupies land\, once a dumping ground with an old\, dilapidated building. It was converted to a multi-purpose court by members of the Ridgemount United Church\, headed by Reverend Oliver J. Daley.\nRev Daley first mooted the idea some two years ago\, although he had no idea where the money would be coming from to purchase the land and put in the necessary infrastructure.\nHe said\, however\, the idea took root with church members and other community persons\, and they all contributed to seeing the complex come to fruition. The facility has a court for basketball\, tennis\, handball\, racketball and a host of other activities.\nPreviously\, the only facility open to the general public was the Manchester Parish Council-operated Brooks Park\, which is undergoing major upgrading.\nSergeant Verona Johnson of the Mandeville police Community Relations Division said the new complex would help to keep young people in the area out of trouble\, as it affords them an opportunity to be engaged in wholesome activities.\n\n(Source: The Gleaner)\n\n
